A job ending creates several pressures at once: understanding events, arranging expenses and identifying activities still authorized. Avoid turning these different questions into one rushed decision. Gather documents and dates first, then seek guidance for your circumstances rather than relying on someone else’s experience.
Describe facts before conclusions
Keep the termination communication, agreement, available records and messages about the final working days. Separate confirmed information from oral statements. A notice date, last day worked and payment date may differ. Your table should let an adviser understand the differences without reconstructing an entire inbox.
Read your complete immigration and work document, including conditions. Do not rely on a prominent date or partial screenshot. Prepare relevant family members’ records too, without assuming the consequences are identical. A competent person must examine each file’s particulars before outlining options.
Consult the correct IRCC instructions
IRCC distinguishes losing a job connected to an employer-specific permit from an open-permit holder’s situation. Its official page also describes conditions for a necessary employer or permit change. Read the current version before any new activity. This article determines neither eligibility nor permission to begin with another employer. Official source.
Avoid shortcuts such as “my document has not expired, so any job is allowed” or “I submitted an application, so I can work immediately.” They may omit important conditions. Ask a precise question with your records: what activity is authorized today, on which basis and what proof should be retained? Request a distinction between current facts and steps still required.
Separate job search and income questions
Prepare a résumé, identify employers and retain responses without describing these tasks as work authorization. When an offer appears, review conditions before setting a start date. A job promise does not automatically resolve permit, program or employer-document questions.
For income and employment-ending rights, contact the competent services with the required evidence. Do not assume benefit eligibility from an online message. Access conditions and applications need separate checking. Build a temporary budget from available, confirmed funds rather than treating a future salary as secured.
Prepare an effective consultation
Summarize known dates, document type, written conditions, pending applications and the priority question on one page. Share complete records securely. Do not send a passport or permit to an unknown contact promising a quick solution. Verify identity and the exact service offered.
A job loss should not lead you to follow an instruction you do not understand or conceal a relevant fact. Keep evidence and ask for options with their conditions, limits and steps. This timeline gives IR Immigration useful material for discussion; it does not replace an individual review of your status.
